It is hard to take pictures of people as I always feel intrusive. However, the
When we arrived in the cold it was woollen or tweed shorts with tabs and buttons over leotards or nylons with short fur jackets and long leather boots. Fur trim was everywhere, on coats, belts, sweaters and skirts - all with long high heeled boots. Although some variation of that is still in evidence it has given way to long balloony tops and mini shirts with lace hanging below or short frilly dresses with lots of lace over black lacy nylons which only reach the knees - from the top down.
Now that it is Spring the shoes are the colourful eye catchers. Bright yellow, red, green and pink all patent high heels and worn with black stockings. It's fun to watch and see just how many different styles and colours you can get on one little Chinese student.
In the park we were fascinated by the way in which Chinese people pose for photos. There's no simple standing and smiling at the camera. It's standing sideways, hand behind the head, head tilted coyly down, eyes looking up or sitting on the bench knees bent arm behind, head and hair is slung back. It's fascinating. They look like film stars or American advertisements. Definitely a cultural difference prompted by the Western magazines and TV they see. Desperate Housewives is one of their favourites!!!! Guess I'd better look at it sometime!
