Festivals .....

We did not have Labour Day so started back to school on Sept 1st but Wednesday Sept 10th was Teachers Day and although we were at school there had been a teachers' get together the day before and my students gave me cards and candies.
We were all given gifts of Moon Cakes by the administration, the traditional food for this coming weekend's Mid Autumn Festival.

We headed for the supermarket this morning and it was really just like Christmas. More crowded that usual and the aisles full of Moon Cake displays of every description and size. These are the traditional food for this festival. They are small cakes about 2 ins in diameter, either savoury or sweet (and we of course can't tell until we bite into one). The filling comprises most of the tasty morsel and is pretty heavy and encased in a kind of outer covering which is beautifully stamped on the top. We have now been given so many by so many people that they will last us as desserts until we leave we think.

Monday is the Mid Autumn Festival public holiday for all except us teachers who have to go to school to welcome new students!!!!
However, not to worry we are full of the many gifts which have arrived this week in the form of Moon Cakes - not yet sure whether we have to eat them in the moonlight or what but will keep you posted.
