Pets

People in our complex seem to enjoy dogs ....... but they are all little dogs.
Rarely do we see large dogs which, as you know, are my favourites.
Many are so small they would fit into a handbag. These little things are doted on it seems and can be seen in the arms of their owners 'going for a walk' in our neigbourhood. Here are two of the LARGER dogs in our block. The one with the plastic bags on his feet was not being protected from the ice and snow as at home but rather had to wear them to keep his feet from getting dirty (it had been raining). Poor little thing. One of my students, when writing an essay on pets, indicated that having a pet, particularly a dog, is a sign of wealth and as demonstrating one's success and wealth is important in this country, you would want to be seen with your dog so that everyone would know you had 'made it'.
. Yesterday, however, I was told that parents often do not allow children to have pets like cats or dogs because they are 'too much work' and the children are irresponsible about caring and cleaning up after them - so it seems like a mixed bag of reasons for having or not having a pet - just like elsewhere. Still, living in a rich neighbourhood, there are plenty of these little ones around us.
