Road works...........

I think that by now you know that we are fascinated by the roadworks that continue apace along our daily route to school - and all over the city we have come to realise. This is the deep 4' chasm that has opened up across Wener Road (pronounced Whenur (like in fur)) It has caused all traffic to be rerouted - except of course for pedestrians and cyclists (who go wherever pedestrians go).

Friday morning we found the following situation with only a 5 foot wide corridor for all of us to get through - going both ways at once! Well we can handle that, or so I thought until I saw the 'bridge' that we all had to cross made of bamboo of course, and already at 6.30 am looking much the worse for wear.




We were lucky that this time there was at least a side barrier - generally there is not. The insurance companies would have a field day here with the dangerous situations people, and children especially, are put in ......... metal posts sticking up 3" from the ground in the middle of the walkway, paving stones unevenly set just waiting for your toe to hit them and trip you up, water ways and bridges with no railings ready for you to dive in - all part of the day's fun and challenges ........ but in another way it makes you take responsibility for yourself when negotiating the obstacles of the day.

This last photo is of the labourer on his way to work complete with all his equipment on the back of his bike. Quite a load!
